After thinking about yesterdays post, I have a few more things to add that to the list of what I consider to be "just business". These have to do with poor or less than expected performance from an employee:
- Always set clearly defined goals and objectives. If employees don’t know where their going, how can you expect them to get there.
- Offer constructive criticism that is targeted at the performance, not the person (i.e., don’t make your criticism personal, keep the focus on the persons performance).
- When correcting a persons behavior or performance, make your point and move on.
- Be honest with an employee when it is evident that they are not cut out for a specific job or position.
- No matter what the performance is, always treat others with respect and dignity.
